Born on an island in the pines, he grew up leading hymns in front of a small rural Baptist congregation and as a teenager toured the East Texas Opry circuit alongside Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves. Once an Austin fixture at legendary establishments like The Hole in the Wall and The White Horse, he’s an elder statesman in the honky tonk scene and is one of the preeminent outsider country artists of our time.
